As proof of principle that a complex yeast genome can be resolved much better using long read sequencing technology we’ve sequenced an ethanologenic yeast species Candida vartiovaarae. In the paper that appeared in the F1000Research nanopore analysis gateway in 2017 we’ve shown that a short read assembly yielded 14,764 contigs and an N50 of 2.2 Kbp whereas the long read assembly was much more contiguous with only 61 contigs with an N50 of 445 Kbp.
